Frequently Asked Questions

(And, critically, our answers to them.)

Will you collaborate with our architect?

Or . . . our dog?

We’ll happily work with your architect—or any professional(s) on your team—to create a cohesive, collaborative workflow aligned to your vision and direction. And if Fido needs a particular kind of nook, niche or dog house? We’ve got him covered too.

How does estimating and pricing work?

Estimates depend on a project’s scope, materials and labor. We are clear communicators both upfront and throughout your project. Our payment plans can vary, but usually there’s a deposit upfront followed by progress payments at agreed milestones and a final payment upon completion. We’ll review everything with you and align on payment terms that you feel good about.

More FAQs

How long will my project take?

Timelines naturally vary based on the complexity and size of the project. For example, a kitchen remodel might take a few weeks while a whole-home renovation could take several months.

Are you licensed and insured?

We are fully licensed and insured meaning that both our workers, and your property, are protected.

How do you handle unexpected issues?

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face” as the saying goes. We exercise open and honest communication with our clients to handle any and all decisions and challenges along the course of a project. We will outline for you the options, corresponding costs and timelines to make the path forward as painless as possible.

Will you take care of the permitting for my project?

We’re happy to obtain the necessary permits, yes, ensuring our project complies with all local building codes.

Do I have a say in the materials you use?

Absolutely. It’s your property after all. If we have preferred materials for quality and/or cost-efficiency, we’ll tell you, but the ultimate decision is yours to make as long as the materials meet safety standards.

Every contractor says he or she is a good communicator. Are you? Really?

Would a bad communicator fall from the tree? Wait.
Is a good communicator in the hand worth two in the bush? No, no. Hold on . . . .
Yes! Yes, we are good communicators! This skill is essential to what we do. (Repurposing famous sayings is decidedly not essential to what we do.)

Do you offer warranties and/or guarantees?

We do offer various warranties and guarantees, yep. Please ask about these in relation to your project.

Will you accommodate design changes once a project has begun?

Happens all the time. Happy to accommodate. If the changes require any incremental cost or timing, we will communicate that to you for your approval before moving forward.

How do you perform quality control on your work?

We maintain quality formally through inspections and adherence to building codes, but we’d tell you that the quality we demand goes way beyond that. The ReCo team boasts experience, skill, passion and a sensibility for craft and quality that puts our work at a level above.

Could you leave my property not a mess?

Sawdust. Scraps. Mud. Dirt. Water. We’ve never understood why so many service professionals think it’s okay to leave a mess behind. A ReCo job includes thorough clean-up and debris-removal at every stage as well as a final clean sweep before proclaiming a project complete.

Do you offer any sort of post-project follow-ups or support?

We conduct a final walkthrough with you on every project and address anything that needs addressing to ensure we don’t leave until you feel it’s perfect. That said, if something isn’t to your liking after we leave, call us and we’ll do whatever it takes to make it right.

What if I want a project executed with energy efficiency and sustainability
as a priority?

Couldn’t be more excited. Let’s do it. (We are beyond happy to use energy-efficient materials, appliances and building practices to enhance sustainability.)

Do you pass through supplier partnership discounts?

Any savings on materials that come from established relationships we have with suppliers we pass on to you, our clients, yes.

Do you do ground-up builds?

We do. Even the clearing, grading and excavating if needed. And the drawings. You get the point. Got a huge project that needs all the things? Bring it on!

How popular are kitchen remodels and bathroom renovations?

We’ll put this in terms of a pop culture metaphor: Taylor Swift.

What if I just want to redo a backsplash, refinish a floor or install new countertops?

Smaller jobs don’t mean they’re unimportant jobs. Aside from being renovation and construction professionals, we’re also homeowners. Sometimes some custom shelving in a laundry room, a little bit of new trim around a picture window, an upgraded railing or swapping out all the light fixtures on your first floor make all the difference. We get it. And we love it.

Do you do remediation work after things like fires, floods and mold?

We do not do hardcore remediation work, however we do have trusted and fantastic recommendations. Call us if you need immediate clean-up help. We’ll get you to the right people.
